“I take a massage each week. This isn’t an indulgence, it’s an investment in your full creative expression/productivity/passion and sustained good health.”-Robin Sharma

How we wish that we can take a massage often as Robin Sharma. We previously visited Chavana Spa (LINK) and now it’s about time to experience the Mandara Spa Discovery package. Albert Einstein said that “The only source of knowledge is experience.” and so we’ve experienced the product and service by Mandara Spa, producing this review. How often do you get a chance to read a spa review by two gents? We believe, rarely. Most reviews were written by ladies. Well, this is an honest review from two gents in regard to the experience at Mandara Spa, Magellan Sutera Resort which is located in Sutera Harbour Resort mammoth complex. We visited Mandara Spa and after the whole experience, we dare to conclude that this Spa is indeed the best Spa not only in Kota Kinabalu city but in the entire state of Sabah.

“The sea is dangerous and its storms terrible, but these obstacles have never been sufficient reason to remain ashore..unlike the mediocre, intrepid spirits seeks victory over those things that seem impossible…it is with an iron will that they embark on the most daring of all endeavors..to meet the shadow feature without fear and conquer the unknown.”-Ferdinand Magellan

Such a great quote by Ferdinand Magellan. A quote that inspired us to be a bit different when we write-up our experiences. Each new place gives us different thoughts and ideas, broader perspectives though at times challenging and seem impossible, we still proceed the journey which in the end enabling us to write-up the experiences. Same as Magellan, we have no fear in conquering the unknown. It was at the Magellan Club Lounge that we were once again inspired by the same quote. The uniqueness of this lounge at Magellan Sutera Resort-Sutera Harbour Resort, inspired us as well. The wooden ceiling resembles  the cabin of olden days ships, as if we’re sailing while lounging here. We might be imagining things but at least there’s a foundation to that. By far, this is the best club lounge (of hotels/resorts) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

“Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing.”-Camille Pissarro

We had the chance to stay at The Magellan Sutera Resort, Sutera Harbour Resort recently. The resort is uniquely different from other resorts that we have been to. Some say, the difference is due to its unique architecture that is pretty much inspired by the Rungus longhouses of Borneo. For the two of us, this resort gave us that tranquility of the sea that we’ve witnessed from our own balcony. We felt so relaxed here. This is truly great resort in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. We love our room so much that we dedicate this entry alone to review the room that we stayed in for 1 night. A short stay but we both saw many beautiful things in this mammoth resort that always stay humble. We really mean that.

“The real purpose of giving massage is to foster depth of feeling for one another in order to bring out the love that often lies buried beneath the pain of everyday suffering.”-Robert Calvert

There is one great Spa at Pacific Sutera Hotel. It is said to be among the best of the best in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, that offers expansive massage menu to its clientele. We’re about to check out from Pacific Sutera Hotel but before that we need to be pampered by some skillful and talented therapists. We need that magic touch that is ably to give us the right pressure, especially at the back. We worked hard the whole year, we deserved the pampering. Then we heard good things about Chavana Spa. We want that massage badly. We also thought that will be another great way to conclude our stay at Pacific Sutera Hotel, getting that magic touch by professional therapists! A great travelogue need a good ending anyway.

“Life is like a Piano…What you get out of it depends on how you play it.’-Albert Einstein

After that great dinner at Silk Garden, we headed to the Lobby Lounge at The Pacific Sutera Hotel, Sutera Harbour Resort (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah). Our intention was to relax while enjoying the evening snack at Lobby Lounge. A staff told us that soon Asif Pishori will be presenting his skills, performing some great music through his magical fingers. We decided to wait and witness this particular performance and see if Asif Pishori ably to entertain us. Then the man came, smiling, got himself comfortably seated next to the grand baby piano. The moment his fingers were on that keyboard, everyone stop talking. That soothing music, at times melancholic and then joyful, pretty much gave us that relaxation feel. Who is this guy? How come we never heard about him? Where did he came from? More questions asked, simply because we were mesmerized by that soothing music played by a mysterious man.

“To the ruler, the people are heaven; to the people, food is heaven.”-(ancient Chinese proverb)

Silk Garden Chinese Restaurant was featured in Malaysia Tatler’s Best Restaurants list of 2009. Recently (2016), it’s once again in the list. Repeating the same triumph indicates that this particular restaurant is worth visiting and so we did. We had such great moments, eating the best food at this Chinese Restaurant. Located next to the tranquil gardens and landscaped ponds of The Pacific Sutera Hotel, the restaurant enjoys fabulous views of the yachts by the marina, the swimming pool, swaying trees and the South China Sea against a picturesque backdrop of the islands of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.  One great restaurant in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, located in within a 5-star resort complex but with affordable prices.

“Tea to the English is really a picnic indoors.”-Alice Walker

Picnic indoors? Perhaps. We both agreed. The view outside seen from the Lobby Lounge is definitely breathtaking. Green and at times there were birds. We saw that through that ceiling to floor window panels. We had English Tea here, sipping our selected hot beverages, eating that good finger food and it was definitely an awesome experience, as if we’re having picnic on the garden at The Pacific Sutera Hotel, Sutera Harbour Resort. This is another great dining option that we recommend to you if you come to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Breeze Beach Club at The Pacific Sutera Hotel is an open-air a-la carte restaurant and is complemented by a dining menu that includes tempting signature cocktails. Breeze Beach Club is near to the poolside area thus making it the perfect place to have some great lunch after some swimming or sunbathing! It’s also one of the best place in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to view the magnificent sunset. We came here for the Breeze Weekend Fiesta few months ago. Located on the 11th floor, Pacific Club is open exclusively for Club Room and Suite guests. With high ceiling and pristine white color on the walls, it’s definitely a place for discerning guests of Pacific Club, to chill out and enjoy the privileges being offered to them. Buffet breakfast of Club Standard and Evening Cocktails are served daily. In between, guests may lounge and enjoy complimentary soft drinks, coffee and tea. We came here several times and were amazed with the spectacular view of that South China Sea, seen from that extremely large window glass panels, across the entire lounge. With some beautiful white chandeliers, we really thought we were entering a cathedral!
