The Halal/Muslim Friendly/Healthy Kota Kinabalu Food Trek 2017-2018 : Introduction

Thought of the day-“You are what you believe yourself to be.”-Paulo Coelho

It’s a long stretch, that route we saw from above, from Papar town to Tuaran Town. In the middle is Kota Kinabalu City. This particular route is about 88 KM long with so many amazing eateries here and there. There is no list whatsoever, a complete and updated one that pin point exact location of Halal and Muslim Friendly eateries located along that long stretch. It’s making Muslim Visitors having to google for information and will always end up with something outdated, a list of 10-12 eateries. That was it. The writer don’t even bother to verify by visiting and dining, giving a clearer picture. This is our initiative. Creating that list which will be updated yearly. A project that we named as Halal/Muslim Friendly/Healthy Food Trek for 2017-2018..

Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan: Dishing out The Eatery’s legendary Mee Curry Sibuga

Written by @joehairie
Lunch at The Eatery on Friday-September 16, 2016.

It’s not an ordinary dish, though the name is. It’s actually a legendary dish named as Mee Curry Sibuga. From the ordinary Mee Curry, it’s been re-born and this one is uniquely different in both taste and presentation. At The Eatery @ Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan,  Mee Curry dish has been given an elevation by Chef Basri, producing his own version that tasted amazingly delicious that will make you go for second and perhaps third. It is a common menu, yes, undeniably easy to find in most eateries. Be warned that this particular Mee Curry has something else to talk about, not to be missed by any foodie out there.

The stars of the said promotion are Curry Laksa Noodle, Farm House Mixed Grill, Horizon Golden Chicken Chop and Beef Burrito. These 4 options are the same (almost) by the names with other food items that you may get in another eateries around Kota Kinabalu. However, those 4 ain’t the same in terms of price and quality. We’ve seen it, tasted it and we concluded the tasting session as ‘exceeded our expectations‘.

The Front Entrance

Some say it’s a cafe with unfinished design. Some say it’s a hipster cafe. We say, it’s a cafe with Industrial Design, purposely left unfinished on some parts, implying a big statement, a significant impact and trademark readily for viewing to those passing by. Alluring that is, as if it’s a call for people to come in and check out what’s inside. That is definitely genius and smart. Welcome to Haus Cafe, one burgeoning cafe in Kota Kinabalu City, we must say. The concept is different. While other cafes tend to outshine competitors, Haus look at things differently. Being humble that is. The owner intend to create that community feels by ensuring that the cafe is fit for people of all ages and background. It ain’t only for the avid coffee hunters and young career people (as you can see in many other cafes), the door opens for everyone.

(Photos by @joehairie)

Serving 220 food items to delight guests taste buds, Victoria’s Brasserie @ Dorsett Grand Labuan claimed to have the Longest Sungkai Buffet in Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan. We both traveled all the way to Labuan from Kota Kinabalu just to be able to break fast here and see for ourselves if the Sungkai Buffet is really ‘Long’ enough as suggested by the name/theme in the Dorsett Grand Promotional Banner. For most people, this post might be a bit too late to be published as Ramadhan month is over. It’s Syawal Month now. However, this write-up has one long run objective. This write-up will enable future guests in 2017 to compare the products(foods) offered in 2016.

We’re not only amazed by the overall concept of the foods and restaurant’s atmosphere but we’re having this unexplained thoughts about homecoming. 14 years ago, we had the same buffet meals here during Ramadhan and now we’re back again.
