Malaysia Airlines Domestic Golden Lounge @ Kota Kinabalu International Airport

The Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Golden Lounge is indeed a space to encapsulate the richness of travel with the airline, a luxurious contemporary Malaysian style that guests will be able to experience. There are two Golden Lounges at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, one is located inside the International Departures Level and another one is in Domestic Departures Level.

We recently visited the Domestic Golden Lounge while waiting for our early morning flight from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur. We’re indeed impressed with the spaciousness of the lounge that offers comfortable seating and dining area as well as buffet breakfast. While it is not that lavish as in other MAS Golden Lounge in KLIA, we have to say that this lounge is great enough in terms of product and service.

Access to this lounge is by invitation, exclusively being offered to MAS First/Business Class Passengers and MAS Partners Premium Passengers, Platinum and Gold Enrich members (irrespective of their class of travel), One World Sapphire and Emerald members as well as selected Credit Cards members. It is not a pay-in lounge which actually creates an air of exclusivity.

Silver and Blue Enrich members however may purchase vouchers using their Enrich Points in order to have access to any MAS Golden Lounge worldwide. Having access to MAS Golden Lounge will give guests a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. It is a space designed to offer premium passengers away from the hustle and bustle of travel.

MAS Domestic Golden Lounge at Kota Kinabalu is open for guests starting from the first Malaysia Airlines flight to last flight of the day (0330 HRS-1000HRS). Facilities being offered at this lounge are Reception, hand luggage area, Muslim prayer room, Business Desk, kids play room, nursing room, self service F&B counters, bistro and showers equipped with washroom.

During our recent visit, Breakfast were served on the buffet counter and the highlights were:

Nasi Lemak
A Malaysian favourite breakfast dish of rice steamed in coconut milk, served with Sambal, Chicken and traditional condiments (Cucumber, Boiled Eggs, Peanuts and Anchovies)
Onion Sambal
Chicken Rendang
Braised Chicken in coconut paste with spices.
Mini Chicken Patties
Roasted Vegetable Frittata
Noodles (Soup)
Sandwiches, Bread, Buns, Cakes and Fruits.
Espresso, Cafe Latte, Cappuccino and Long Black

Overall, the buffet spread for breakfast though not that lavish, it’s sufficient, at least for both of us. This is a lounge for Domestic Flights with the longest flight is of 2 hours and 30 minutes and we personally think that passengers utilizing this lounge will not be eating much anyway. Buffet spread items changes according to the time of the day (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

There is a working space complete with PC and Internet access in this lounge. This feature is useful for those who really need to work online while waiting for their respective flights. Perhaps one extra feature that can be considered by the airline is Day Bed or Semi Private Resting Area enabling guests to take a little nap.

Washroom with shower is available and we’re definitely pleased with the cleanliness of this particular area. Staff are always alert to the level of washroom’s cleanliness. Overall, we’re satisfied with what we’ve seen and experienced. The lounge itself is great enough for Domestic flights premium passengers. Staff; polite, attentive and smiled genuinely.

However, it will be best if the airline is able to consider relocating the lounge to the middle part of departures level. It will certainly be a long walk for premium passengers if flight departs from the other end of the terminal. We have yet to visit the Golden Lounge in the International Departures level. Once we do, we will post our experience in this blog.

The Domestic Golden Lounge at Kota Kinabalu International Airport is located near to Gate B10, right after The Plaza Premium Lounge.

    1. Hi Mia
Thanks for dropping by. Yup memang best lounge ni, we loved everything about it walaupun we personally think the location kat hujung is a bit troublesome for those with further gates.
