It’s still early. There’s this event that we need to attend at 7pm, the 22nd anniversary of Shenanigan’s Fun Pub. It’s 5 pm so we decided to spend some time at the elegant and stylish Regency Club Lounge, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu. We’ve been upgraded, so we had this access to the lounge. When it’s 5 pm, guests come here for the Evening Cocktails and hors d’oeuvre. Perfect timing to view the sunset as well! The Regency Club Lounge is on the 13th floor, so up we went, crossing fingers, hoping to get the best seats as our main intention was to view that magnificent sunset.
The Regency Club Lounge on the 13th floor has been redesigned with an elegant and inviting look and a private meeting room has been added for the exclusive use of Regency Club guests. This area is a dedicated non-smoking environment and is open daily from 6:30am to 10:00pm. An extended Continental Breakfast will be served between 6:30am to 10:00am during Weekdays, and the hours of 6:30am to 10:30am during Weekends and Public holidays.
The Lounge also offers complimentary refreshments throughout the day as well as dedicated workstations with complimentary broadband Internet access. For beautiful sunsets overlooking the dotted coral islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, join the evening cocktail hour including canapes and premium beverages from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Small charge applies should one wish to invite non-resident guests to the Regency Club Lounge. The dress code for the Lounge is smart casual.
We were greeted by Collin and Suzzie. We love the way they smiled genuinely and both of them were here and there at the lounge, attending to guests needs, pouring that wine and beers, clearing tables and preparing it for coming guests. It’s quite amazing that they were able to memorize the names of each guest coming to this lounge! This is what we named as Personalized Service!
Yes, we were lucky. We were among the earliest guests to be in the lounge so we did get our preferred seating. Years ago, this particular lounge was about half of it’s current size. The major renovation included the Regency Club Lounge and now it has even a board room, where guests can have their private business meetings. The colors here are soothing, mainly about cream and dark brown. The buffet table is in the middle part of the lounge, next to it are all the beverages stations, alcohol to non alcohol options.
There are plenty of comfy sofas and casual dining tables, with seating near to the large window panels being the most popular! Why? The views! It does not matter if it’s morning or early evening, the views are just too good to be missed! There are plenty magazines and newspapers are available for the guests to read. The interior’s cream and dark brown colors truly gave us the feel of elegance as if we were in an exclusive ‘hide-out’ for the rich and famous (may we say that?).
We always pay attention to the smallest details and of all the smaller decorations, we love the orchids in little glass vases on each table in this lounge. For us, lounging here is not only about consuming all that good foods and beverages, enjoying the finest service. Being here is actually more to relaxation, admiring the view and somehow had good casual conversation with the staffs.
It’s about that real conversation, understanding their thoughts, looking at how they interact with other guests. It’s amazing to see how 2 staff were able to handle more than 30 guests, professionally, without flaw. That’s how Suzie and Collin worked, from their heart and soul, putting everything above their personal matters. I wonder how 2 staffs were able to smile continuously despite all that challenges.
The pantry staff started their set-up much earlier but guests were already there trying to grab the good things on the table, even before 5 pm!. Amazingly, the staff managed to lined-up everything in record time despite having some trays emptied quickly by guests. They refilled and refilled and they did it with full smile, with jovial facial expression. Friendly, attentive and hard working, that’s how we described them.
We love how everything were set-up nicely on that beautiful marble counter-top. Maybe the spread were not as grand as what we’ve seen at some hotels in Kuala Lumpur but the presentation and colors of all things on the counter were great enough, satisfying all that guests who came.
When guests keep coming back to get more it’s an indication how good the snacks were. The Salad section was good enough and it offered the freshest ingredients. The most popular items were the Tortilla Chips, Chili Corn Carne, BBQ Salmon Ball & Roasted Chicken. Guests keep coming for these particular items that the staffs had to refill all, repeatedly.
While lounging and waiting for that sunset view, we had some non alcoholic beverages and there were plenty choices at the beverages station. Those wine and beer lovers coming here in the near future, shall be happy as free flow of alcohol beverages are waiting! I personally love that coffee machine, there’s thought of kidnapping that coffee machine so that I will have free flow of coffee in the room!
Good finger foods, snacks and free flow of beverages were even better with the arrayed picturesque sky, a free gift from the above but definitely viewed better from Regency Club Lounge. It’s the view that every guests here waited since 5 pm, where colors changed one to another, the sinking of that beautiful sun. We captured the moments through our lenses and here are some of that amazing view of Sunset, seen from Regency Club Lounge @ Hyatt Regency Kinabalu.

The real reason that really made our time at Regency Club Lounge into one great wonderful experience, was not only about the good foods and free flow of beverages. It’s because of Suzie, the most attentive staff that we’ve ever met all this while. We never met her before, anywhere else, met her for the first time at Regency Club Lounge.
The first minute we saw her, we already knew that she is not an ordinary staff as she is full of determination and dedicate her soul to her work. She gave 100% attention to all guests that evening. She made countless visits to each table, not only to pick up some used plate or glasses but she actually asked each guest of their well being and she did go for the details. She is an asset to this brand, believe it or not, we saw that in her inner qualities.
Is it really worth paying that extra to have that said privileged experience at the Regency Club Lounge @ Hyatt Regency Kinabalu? Definitely yes and you will be receiving more benefits if you stay on the Club Floors. With that said, we both honestly will say that having access to the Regency Club Lounge @ Hyatt Regency Kinabalu is worth more than the price tag itself. The view of Sunset, the utmost attention by staffs, great evening cocktails and many other things are priceless.
We do recommend future guests to enroll in the prestigious Hyatt Gold Passport for long term benefits. Diamond members will be receiving greater benefits including access to any Regency/Grand Club Lounge, even though staying in a standard room.
