Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan celebrates Deepavali and they are having the Kolam at the Hotel! The Kolam is a free hand drawing and a traditional form of art. These designs are believed to produce positive cosmic forces which will improve positive cosmic forces which will improve the lot of people who dwell in the house. We can also interpret it in the modern context as a sign of welcome to all people who come to the house (in this case, the Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan hotel). They denote a prayer ‘let there be happiness and cheerfulness when anybody steps into the house’. Besides that, if there is an artistic design, nobody will dirty the place. It is supposed to prevent undesirable elements from entering the house.

“There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.”-Henry James
Afternoon tea is about indulging yourself in your favorite hot beverage. It is about the ultimate indulgence with the elements surrounding you and your company. We mentioned earlier that we will be having afternoon tea at The Lobby Lounge, Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan and so we did. The perfect ambiance of The Lobby Lounge with some amazing colors of the comfy chairs perfected the moment. We were hosted by our angels, Ms Yee and Ms Lily and they have prepared something unusual yet interesting for our afternoon tea, colorful Macaroons and amazing TWG Tea, not one but 2 kinds of it.
Drinking tea dates back to the third millennium BC in China but it was the Brits that started to popularize the whole thing about the ceremonial Afternoon Tea. It is trending in each location you go to. The concept of afternoon tea changes depending on the location but one thing remains the same, appreciation towards the serving : the beverages and finger foods. While some tend to have complicated and layers of things on the table, a simple cup of tea will do and it will be fun to sip it while casually talking with tea-mates. Some people will spend hours doing that, we both occasionally do, especially when our best mates are with us.
According to Ben Johnson (2016), afternoon tea was introduced in England by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, in the year 1840. The Duchess would become hungry around four o’clock in the afternoon. The evening meal in her household was served fashionably late at eight o’clock, thus leaving a long period of time between lunch and dinner. The Duchess asked that a tray of tea, bread and butter (some time earlier, the Earl of Sandwich had had the idea of putting a filling between two slices of bread) and cake be brought to her room during the late afternoon. This became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her.
About The Lobby Lounge
Decorated in a bright, friendly style, The Lobby Lounge is the perfect place to relax and unwind any time of day. Views of Sandakan Bay create a light-filled backdrop for clusters of armchairs and sofas in orange, green, and purple. Join colleagues for cappuccino or espresso during the day. Enjoy traditional afternoon tea with fresh-baked pastries. Or share a relaxing moment with friends over a glass of wine, beer, or cocktail. Finger foods like buffalo wings, prawn fries, or anchovy fries are great for sharing. Gourmet sandwiches satisfy a bigger appetite.

Our Afternoon Tea
While our afternoon tea was a casual one and not that ceremonial as in Traditional English Tea, we kind of loving the moments especially when it’s done at The Lobby Lounge, located on the 1st floor of Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan. The magnificent view is still playing in our thoughts even after finished writing this article. A truly memorable afternoon tea, I must say especially when we were accompanied and hosted by our angels. Mind you, a casual visit or staying at Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan is not complete if one have yet to sit at the comfy and colorful sofas at The Lobby Lounge, enjoying afternoon tea while looking at the amazing view of Sandakan Bay.
The fragrant TWG Tea that were offered to us, refreshed us from that long hours of half day tour at Sepilok. We had 2 types of Tea, namely 1837 Black Tea and Geisha Blossom Tea. TWG Tea’s renowned signature tea, 1837 Black is a unique blend of black tea with notes of fruits and flowers from the Bermuda triangle which leaves a lingering aftertaste of ripe berries, anise, and caramel. A timeless classic, that is. The other tea was Geisha Blossom Tea which is blend of green tea and refreshing ripe southern fruits infuses into a fragrant cup that will calm and appease after a day’s disruptions.
The Macaroons were lovely, though we are not into sweet things, we actually still enjoyed that Macaroons. The macaroons served to us were definitely simple but colorful presentation of beauty from the Pastry Chef that made em’. Perfect macaroons we must say that we forgot that we don’t normally consume anything nearer to that. We did! At The Lobby Lounge @ Four Points Sheraton Sandakan. Why? Perhaps it looked so tempting, the soothing and colorful ambiance of The Lobby Lounge added to that temptation, though we were quite full after some great lunch just 2 hours ago! Our thoughts were like trying to position the macaroons in between cookie and candy categories. The TWG Tea..uhhhh haven we say..
It will be hard to deny that the best place for Afternoon Tea in Sandakan is actually at The Lobby Lounge @ Four Points by Sheraton. The high quality and wide choices of beverages and snacks is equally important as the magnificent, colorful, vibrant Lobby Lounge’s ambiance. To add to that already validated factors in online reviews from genuine guests, the awesome view of that Sandakan Bay, will make you sit for hours.
We had our wonderful, refreshing and aromatic TWG Tea with some lovely macaroons. We had our moments with our angels and planning to have more of that in the near future, fingers crossed. While I think of that plan together with @lan, we do have one question for you. The question is, when is your moment?
