Thought of the day-“Food brings people together on many different levels. It’s nourishment of the soul and body; it’s truly love.”-Giada De Laurentiis
(This cafe is owned and managed by Muslim owners)
Good food is cooked with love and soul. A great Cafe is not only about serving that good food but is also a place where people ably to sense that warm and inviting atmosphere. Being inside, it feels like almost being at home. Feeling comfortable is the keyword. In the long run, people will only return to cafes that they feel comfortable at. These are the qualities of a great cafe. Kota Kinabalu city is increasingly dotted with new cafes, not all have that ‘great qualities’ but Garage Kafe @ Penampang Bypass does. That’s how we see it, an observation of ours that took 13 months to reach that firm conclusion.

This entry is written after we tasted some yummy packed Nasi Lemak days ago. Nasi lemak is a Malay Fragrant Rice dish cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf. It is commonly found in Malaysia, where it is considered the national dish and also popular in neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Indonesia especially in Eastern Sumatra, Brunei and Southern Thailand. Malaysian normally have this meal for breakfast but then some people have this for lunch and even post supper!! Nasi Lemak can be found in all parts of Malaysia, be it at street vendors, cafes and even in a 5 star restaurant.

“I am not a glutton, I am an explorer of food”-Erma Bombeck
A journey is incomplete without some great food and so our journey in East Java did have some stops here and there, enjoying the best of Indonesian cuisine. One of the most memorable dining experience was at the Kantri Restaurant which is located along the main road of Singosari, Malang-Surabaya. We just had some big breakfast and all the sudden we were hungry again and so our guide cum driver decided to made a ‘pit-stop’ at Kantri Restaurant. The menu seemed to have mostly fusion food but somewhere in between the pages I managed to see one alluring dish named as Ayam Bakar Kantri.

“Elegance is achieved when all that is superfluous has been discarded and the human being discovers simplicity and concentration: the simpler and more sober the posture, the more beautiful it will be.” – Paulo Coelho
A great cafe does not necessarily need the most up to date interior and exterior features. At times, simplicity is needed in order to align the owner’s products and the expected crowd. Less is more, well, sometimes this philosophy works depending on the ability of the cafe’s owner to keep the customers happy and ably to understand their needs. Customers tend to look at the features of the cafe over the products, if it is best suited to their ‘soul’, they will sure to come in. Nowadays, cafe business is quite challenging, it’s so hard to determine the exact desire(s) of patrons. So, does simplicity actually work for certain cafes? There is one, right here in the city center, a cafe full of simplicity.

Some say it’s a cafe with unfinished design. Some say it’s a hipster cafe. We say, it’s a cafe with Industrial Design, purposely left unfinished on some parts, implying a big statement, a significant impact and trademark readily for viewing to those passing by. Alluring that is, as if it’s a call for people to come in and check out what’s inside. That is definitely genius and smart. Welcome to Haus Cafe, one burgeoning cafe in Kota Kinabalu City, we must say. The concept is different. While other cafes tend to outshine competitors, Haus look at things differently. Being humble that is. The owner intend to create that community feels by ensuring that the cafe is fit for people of all ages and background. It ain’t only for the avid coffee hunters and young career people (as you can see in many other cafes), the door opens for everyone.

“At the Chicken Rice Shop, it’s true about what they are saying, its not just about Chicken Rice. It’s more than that. For the Remimi’s, it’s about how we spent quality time and had good meals together”-@joehairie
A week ago, the curiostraveller.com team members decided to invite the Remimi’s for a family gathering at The Chicken Rice Shop. In Kota Kinabalu, there are 3 Chicken Rice branches: Imago Mall, 1 Borneo Mall and Suria Sabah Mall. For this review, we chose the outlet at Imago Mall. This is the first Chain Restaurant that we are going to review. We want to know if The Chicken Rice Shop is the right place for a large family to dine in. Are the prices of food and beverages affordable to all type of customers? Were our food and beverages presented properly according to the menu and tasted delicious? These were the questions that we asked ourselves prior coming to this restaurant. Read further to know more about our findings.
“Yet another great food by Kuzine, managed by one humble talented and experienced Chef thus our amazing culinary journey continues…..”-curiostraveller.com

Hidden somewhere in the Cyber Square Kepayan, there is this amazing eatery by the name of Kuzine Cafe & Catering. We went here recently after brief reading about the cafe from Instagram feed/caption. Our main objective prior to coming here, is to know how is this cafe different from the already abundant cafes . Simply put, we want to unearth the uniqueness of Kuzine. The owner did not know that we were coming and we think that he did not even know about who we are actually. When we took photos of the cafe surroundings, he seemed to be in curious state. We only introduced ourselves after the food being brought to the table. That’s the point when we actually had the chance to review foods that were not prepared or designed specifically for special customers. Yes, we were about to eat the food that common customers are getting. It was kind of an ultimate test to see if Kuzine really offers quality products and services. What’s our thoughts about this cafe? Read further to know more about our findings.
