Maison Glad Jeju @ Jeju-si, South Korea

Written by @Joehairie

Maison Glad Jeju is a 5-Star Tourist Hotel (Grade 1) with 457 rooms including 56 luxurious suites. Strategically  located in the city center, guests will have access to Yeongdong Street Pedestrian mall (formerly known as Baojian Street). We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as we needed to explore the northern (Jeju City) and eastern part (Seongsan Ilchulbong) of Jeju Island.

On the 3rd day in Jeju Island, we moved to the southern part (Seogwipo) as it will be more convenient when visiting attractions in that particular area. Jeju Island is not really small, it’s about triple the size of Singapore (or Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore put together).

If you are visiting Jeju Island, you may want to stay nearby to places you are visiting as it will save time rather than circling the island.

Maison Glad Jeju is optimized for the needs of customers who set much value on functions, brand philosophy, and reasonable prices. The hotel provides local foods and unique services that can be experienced only in the region.

The hotel offers 4 room categories namely Superior, Deluxe, Premium (Premium, On-dol, Terrace) and Suite (Junior, Family, Heritage, Corner, Parlor, Royal and Presidential). Breakfast is served at Samdajeong Restaurant.

All rooms in this hotel are equipped with the latest technology in internet connection. Guests may rent laptop computers or laptops from the front desk which can be plugged in and connected immediately to the internet (Wireless: Free and Cable: 1 hour at 8000 KRW). Free Wi-Fi service is available in all rooms, hotel lobby and Samdajeong restaurant.

Since we were out for most of the time (on tour), we did not have the opportunity to enjoy the facilities at the hotel. What we love most about this hotel was how near it was to the Yeongdong Pedestrian Mall which we visited on both evenings.

The nearby Yeongdong pedestrian mall street started in 2010. A naming contest was held in December 2017 and Nuwemaru was selected (formerly it was Baojian Street, and before that, Rodeo Street.) The pedestrian mall has restaurants, bars, clothing and souvenir shops. It is also dubbed as “Little China” in Jeju.

Maison Glad Jeju sets value on “unique local experience” thus reinterpreting heritage of Jeju Grand Hotel (the brand which the hotel’s formerly known as). The hotel keeps its symbols such as emblem and foundation stones and upcycle the furniture from Grand Hotel, emphasizing the succession of heritage.

Presidential Suite

We were privileged to be given the opportunity to have a peek at the hotel’s luxurious Presidential Suite. The suite has both city and garden view with large open air terrace.

Living Room

Dining Table (attached to living room)

1st Bedroom

2nd Bedroom

En Suite Bathroom (1st bedroom)

Outdoor Garden Terrace

Outdoor Shower (attached to 1st Bedroom)

En Suite Bathroom (1st Bedroom)

Terrace Room

We also visited the Premium Terrace Room. We were made to understand that this category has a private terrace, which can be transformed into a campsite, a kids playground, and a movie theater. In a cozy terrace you can enjoy movie as well as relax in the peaceful afternoon. In the case of travel of a number of families, the terraces can be shared with other families in the neighboring rooms, which increase pleasure of travel with others.

Bedroom (Twin beds. Queen is available as well)

Comfy day bed

Shower in en suite bathroom.

Premium Room

Both of us were given a room each. For illustration purpose, we will be showing Lan’s room, which is similar to my room. Rooms in this category are located in the main building.

Entrance walkway: to the right is en suite bathroom while left is wardrobe.

Premium rooms are highlighted by an elegant interior with antique design elements. The upgraded bed size offers marginal space, best for stay with family or friends.

Twin Beds

Small table between beds. Massage service is just a phone call away!

Comfy Sofa. The only thing missing in this room (which we hope to have) was a full-size working desk.

Items for sale (Toothbrush, razor, etc)

Complimentary 2 bottles of mineral water (per day)

Large LCD TV

In case of major emergency, this is available in the room!

En suite bathroom

Maison Glad’s own toiletries

Beautiful bags with toiletries inside! (The bags are not to be taken away unless you are willing to pay for it).

Hair-dryer and more toiletries inside those 2 bags

Hi-tech toilet with built-in bidet

The hotel is great for its location, service, amenities and facilities. Staff were amazingly friendly and speaks fluent English. We love the fact how close the hotel is to Yeongdong pedestrian mall. We returned to the hotel almost at 9pm on both evenings and after a quick shower, we wandered around at the pedestrian mall; doing bits of shopping! Most shops closed at 1am and for us that’s really something great. The hotel is also located not that far from Jeju International Airport and in the heart of Jeju City. We look forward to stay here again in the future. Location, location and location is the perfect description for this particular hotel.
