Our 12-hours stay experience in Aerotel Kuala Lumpur (gateway@klia2)

Written by @Lan
As seen and experienced by us while staying at Aerotel, An Airport Hotel Designed by Travellers for Travellers

We were travelling to Busan, South Korea from Kota Kinabalu and the journey required a transit at klia2 for more than 12 hours. It was indeed a long transit and obviously we needed a place to relax and refresh before the second leg of the trip. Fortunately, there’s Aerotel inside klia2, not far from the check-in/departure area!

We’re pretty familiar with Aerotel as we did visit the adjacent lounge not long ago. At that time, we did not stay in Aerotel but opted to unwind at Plaza Premium Lounge. We’re however briefed by the friendly staff working at the Lounge about the facilities available at Aerotel. With that in mind, in this recent transit at klia2, we chose to relax and recharge at Aerotel.

One may simply walk in or make an advance reservation via Aerotel’s website (Link). We highly recommend that you make a reservation as you never know if there’s room available given that Aerotel is quite popular among travellers transiting at klia2. The location of Aerotel is amazingly convenient as it’s in within walking distance to the departure area. You may walk in if you have to especially when you make a last-minute decision. Alternatively, call to place your reservation. We made an advance reservation and our stay was on 1 December 2018 from 11am to 11pm.

Note: AEROTEL KUALA LUMPUR is located within gateway@klia2 (outside airport restricted area) at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal klia2. If you are transiting in Kuala Lumpur, please note that you must be in possession of a valid travel document and clear security to enter Malaysia in order to access AEROTEL KUALA LUMPUR. An additional Tourism Tax of MYR 10 per guest may be chargeable upon check-in (For non-Malaysians only).

Each room comes with en-suite bathroom with powerful shower and amenities, select mattress and pillows, individually controlled air-condition, television, hair-dryer, complimentary WiFi, auto-boiler, coffee/tea making facilities, security key-card access, a writing table and a chair.

There are a total of 7 Solo Plus Rooms and is 20sqm in size. This type of room offers one single bed and perfect for single travellers who require a private space to refresh and recharge.

There are also 56 Double Plus Rooms with Twin Beds (25sqm) and 13 rooms with one double bed/ Queen (22sqm), making it a total of 69 rooms in this particular category. This type of room is indeed spacious enough for 2 guests to rest and unwind comfortably.

With size of 34sqm, the Family Room is designed for a homey and relaxing stay and it comes with one double bed and 2 single beds. It sleeps 4 people comfortably. At the time of writing, there is one unit of Family Room at Aerotel, gateway@klia2.

Our Room

We opted for the Double Plus Room and specifically requested for Twin Beds. The room itself was way comfortable for us, beyond our expectation. It’s perfect for our 12-hours plus transit enabling us to shower (2 times to be exact), taking a nap and eat good foods at The Bar (adjacent to Plaza Premium Lounge).

We’re amazed with the speed of complimentary WiFi, we were online for almost 2 hours! We managed to update some of our usual tasks, not all obviously as we needed extra time to nap, shower and eat!

The Twin Beds were comfy and we wish we had more hours so that we can sleep like a baby. There’s phone on the desk in between beds, enabling the staff to call and wake us up or else we gonna miss our flight! The staff also reminded us that we’re entitled to have some great foods at The Bar (more on that later).

There’s a working desk which I love so much as it gave me some space to finish some online tasks. TV is mounted and there’s no wardrobe or closet given that guests don’t really stay here for more than a night. Fret not, there’s ample space for your big luggage and to store your belongings meant for immediate use. Lighting in this room, perfect. There are two things that you need to know though, rooms are windowless and smoking is strictly prohibited inside the room.

Complimentary Coffee and Tea making facilities as well as Bottled drinking water are readily available on the working desk for guests. For more options, head to The Bar (Chargeable, unless you use the Meal Voucher Redemption). Need to entertain some other guests or planning to have your business meetings? Fret not, as for reasonable fee, you may use the facilities available at adjacent Plaza Premium Lounge (more on that in another post).

The shower unit inside the en-suite bathroom is amazingly spacious. The water pressure was great and showering before our Busan bound flight really refreshed us. We actually showered twice, when we arrived and before we checked out!

The en-suite bathroom had everything that we need, from sufficient, clean and large towels to toiletries and most important, the toilet seat comes with a bidet. We’re fully satisfied with everything available inside the bathroom.

The Bar

As mentioned earlier, there is a place for you to chill out; The Bar. It is the perfect meeting venue for those awaiting or seeing off their guests as it is located on the landside of gateway @klia2. Located across Aerotel Kuala Lumpur is the Bar; measuring over 60 square metres in size with the capacity of over 40 seats, it is the only watering hole in gateway@klia2.

Each registered guest at Aerotel will be given a Meal Voucher and this particular voucher can be redeemed for a meal that comes with a drink (1 meal + 1 drink for each registered guest). At the time of writing, there are four and three options for Main Course and Beverage, respectively.

Main Course (Choose 1)
Vegetarian Fried Rice
American Sausage with Steamed Bun
Sweet & Sour Chicken with Rice
Vegetarian Pasta with Tomato Sauce

Beverage Options (Choose 1)
Iced Lemon Tea
Americano (hot/iced)
Green Tea (hot/cold)

*Take note that the management may change the menu in the future thus these options are correct at the time of writing.

The Bar is open to public as well, even for non-passengers, making it a great place to chill out while waiting for friends or even a place to relax after some ‘shopping’ at gateway@klia2. Guests may order food and beverages from The Bar’s extensive menu.

For your reference, here is the PDF copy of the menu and the information is correct at the time of writing.
The Bar Menu

We ordered Chicken Chop (Grilled boneless chicken thigh served with mash potato and mixed peas) from the ala-carte menu and it’s well-portioned as well as delicious.

Bottom Line

A recap of our experience at Aerotel (Music by Scott Holmes)

We love everything inside this particular Aerotel. It’s indeed a great place to refresh, relax and recharge before boarding our flight to Busan, South Korea. The three important things in the room, for us, were the bed, shower and internet. The complimentary meals and beverages were a big bonus as we didn’t have to go to other eateries and spend more money for food. The best thing about Aerotel is it’s location, within walking distance (less than 10 minutes) to the check-in/departure area.
