Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu is the latest hotel to introduce the “no plastic straw” in its property from 1 October 2018. This initiative is in support of Marriott International’s Skip The Straw initiatives to do away disposable plastic straws and stirrers from its 6,500 hotels and resorts worldwide by July 2019.

According to the General Manager of Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu Rachael Harman, the hotel support Marriott International’s #skipthestraw campaign as part of our Serve 360 efforts to reduce our environmental impact. “This move will eliminate the use of more than 20,000 straws used annually at the hotel. We will provide alternative paper straws upon customers’ request”, she added.

Guided by the 2025 UN Sustainable Development Goals, this is one of the many initiatives under the hotel’s “Serve 360”, a Marriott sustainability & social impact platform, designed to foster business growth while balancing the needs of associates, customers, owners, the environment and communities.
