On our second day at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur, we opted to have lunch at Gastro Sentral. This was our first visit and initially we had no idea at all what Gastro Sentral is all about, especially when it comes to menu options. We did guess that we’re about to consume more dishes of western cuisine. We were wrong. Gastro Sentral is about Continental, Asian and Local Delights. Wide option was just what we need that afternoon. We walked in and an attentive staff came to us, brought us to the table and handed out the menu. We ordered as to our preference with the exception of that Avocado Burger which was recommend by the staff.
Service started immediately. To start, we were given this complimentary rosemary bread which was served in a tin can, with Gastro Sentral logo on it. There’s a small bottle as well and we were informed that’s the Lobster Oil. Brilliant and that’s really nice of Gastro Sentral! We love having Lobster Oil with bread. Together with Balsamic Vinegar, it makes one great dipping sauce for the bread. Who needs that typical soup when there’s bread and Lobster Oil already?
For drinks, we opted for two refreshing, thirst-quenching Mocktails namely Virgin Mojito (mento cubano, lime juice, soda water) as well as Pineapple & Bitter Orange Cooler (pineapple fruit mix, bitter orange syrup, soda water). Both Mocktails were superb in taste and if it’s not for the well-portioned food that we had, we would have place another order for the same Mocktails.
Avocado Burger (Fresh avocado pulp, mango crab salad, sriracha aioli and toasted sesame seed).
Priced at RM48, this option from the Menu’s Ruffage Category, is everyone’s favorite. We were informed that it’s been the talk of the town since the first day Gastro Sentral introduced this option in the menu. We’re glad that one of the staff recommend this beautiful and delicious, mouth watering, alluring Avocado Burger.
It’s not that typical burger with bread or bun. Instead the top and bottom part are of Avocado itself with mango crab salad in the middle. It’s heaven food we say and we highly recommend this option to those who are to come to Gastro Sentral at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur.
Be it for Brunch, Lunch and or Dinner, it’s perfect for everyone. It might not be that big in size but trust us, in this particular case, size does not matter. Try it and see if you want to proceed with another dish or in deep thinking of having a second.
Yellow Mee Curry (Spicy coconut curry soup with homemade prawn dumpling, crispy tofu puffs and Sambal)
Joe had this alluring dish named as Yellow Mee Curry; the local’s favorite (in the menu, it’s under the Go Lokal option). The portion; big and we both think that it can actually be shared by two person. This Yellow Mee Curry is priced at RM38 and that’s really a bargain price given that the portion is extremely satisfying, not to mention the amazing taste of its gravy.
It’s not that really spicy, just a mild one but if one need to further escalate the level of spiciness, then simply apply that Sambal and it will certainly add up the flavor of that Yellow Mee Curry. Joe did squeeze the lime onto the Yellow Mee Curry as to add flavor. According to Joe, the gravy; neither watery nor too thick. It had the right consistency as he prefers with any kind of curry based meals.
22-hour Braised Wagyu Cheek (served with mashed potatoes, toasted baguette, grilled green asparagus and Béarnaise sauce).
It’s braised for 22-hours! It’s amazingly tender and that table knife did go through the meat easily! In short, meltingly tender. As I had it, it easily melt in my mouth and it certainly had that rich, deep flavor. Every element on the plate, was arranged beautifully but for me the best thing about this dish; the taste and texture.
The 22-hour Barised Wagyu Cheek is priced at RM78 and we must say that is certainly fair price as the presentation, texture and most importantly taste are undeniably, heavenly amazing.
The dining experience here was amazing. The foods were great especially that Avocado Burger and we can’t say thank you enough to the staff who recommended that option. It’s food from heaven, we say. We had some Avocado Burger somewhere else but the one that we had at Gastro Sentral was exceptional, extraordinary, out of the world. It had that precise, exact texture, consistency and taste that we’d expected. Every element on the plate, beautifully arranged and fresh!
Staff were friendly, polite and they all smiled genuinely, Although they were quite busy as there were big and smaller groups coming in at the same time, obviously for lunch; they managed to maintain their professionalism. Foods were delivered in record time and we must say that we failed to see any flaw be it for our table or our neighbors’. Everyone enjoyed their food, with smiles seen upon food being presented on the table.
