Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur : Our Review

Written by @Lan

We love the fact that Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur is just next to KL Sentral, the transportation hub with a network of integrated railway connections. It was easy for us to reach this hotel, thanks to the super-efficient KLIA Ekspress that brought us from KLIA in less than 30 minutes. To go around Kuala Lumpur city, there are MRT, LRT and Monorail services at KL Sentral. Well, that’s just a start as there are many things that we truly enjoyed while being at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur. This is our honest thoughts, in regard to our experience; staying in a Deluxe Room at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur.

We’re indeed impressed with the design of the main lobby’s exterior. It looks splendidly beautiful especially in the evening. There’s pretty much concoction of that Le Méridien brand’s award-winning  ‘Arrival Experience’ and the need to leave one great, lasting impression; to a point where it is ably to wowed guests. Through leaflets or somewhere, we couldn’t agree more as to what the transformation has been since the renovation;

“Upon arrival, guests will find the newly renovated lobby concept, as it provides guests and locals alike, a space to foster ideas and promote conversations through social and business gatherings.”

When stepping into the lobby, some will say it’s swanky. Another claimed it to be classier, artistically beautiful. Officially speaking, it will be that inspiration of Le Méridien’s Global Cultural Curator; embedding the Art Of Connection into the entire lobby area. That’s the DNA of Le Méridien; colors, quirk and local identity. As for both of us, we prefer to say it in simple expression; wow and wow…and it really smells nice here, perhaps for that aromatic candles.

We’re booked to a Deluxe Room with an exclusive access to the refurbished Club Lounge. The concierge upon learning this fact, ushered us to the elevator, scanning his card and up we went to the 33rd floor. We checked-in here, at the Club Lounge and the receptionist insisted us to wait at the lounge, sipping our preferred beverages, while he took care of the formalities. We’re once again impressed with the superlative and intriguing design of the lounge. It’s that Wow again!

Our Deluxe Room

Within minutes, we were given our key cards; our room is on the 30th floor. We were informed that our luggage will be taken care of by concierge and it will be in the room before we enter it. Indeed. Everything were perfectly placed. Being on the 30th floor, we had an awesome view of the city skyline, in other words, Kuala Lumpur’s stunning urban landscape.

Our contemporary Deluxe Room is of twin beds with goose down duvets. And there’s that juxtaposes motifs of Batik’s print which we love very much. Another feature is, of all hotel’s rooms we had stayed globally, this was our first to see so many AC power outlets in one single room! Its everywhere at all corners in the room and we’re glad to notice that as we travel with plenty of devices a.k.a gadgets. So, there’s no fighting on who gets to control the power outlets nearest to beds, there are two! One for each of our mobile.

We love surprises. We couldn’t help noticing goodies systematically placed on the table, waiting for us to savor em’. There’s eclair with our names and there were Chocolate Cigars as well as Madeleine! We literally ate our names first and it’s delicious. As we were told,  ‘hidden’ somewhere, vouchers for complimentary barista coffees, redeemable at the lobby lounge. We searched high and low, and it’s with other pamphlets in, well, sort of file, on the bed!

The only thing that we wish to see in the future is another set of single sofa or at least make it to a larger sofa that ably to accommodate two people. There’s only one single sofa  in the room and there were two of us. There are times when we do not want to be on the bed as sitting on comfy sofa, sipping hot coffee and chatting is our norm. Well, such shortage might be a blessing in disguise as it actually made us head to the Lobby Lounge, where we redeemed our coffee and chat!

Another feature that we love so much is how convenient it was for us to store our valuables. The safety box is just under the workstation. On top of it, is the DVD player which we did not use. Remember we had one power outlet for each of us, next to the bed? Our mobiles became our source of entertainment, no steps needed to be out of the bed just to recharge.

For the entire duration of our stay, the mini bar and coffee/tea making facilities were well stocked. There were also 2 cups for hot beverage with Le Méridien’s name on it. It’s fun to bring along the cup out of the room and sip in public, feeling proud of having it…a bit of show off there, perhaps giving a fair fight to those holding the hot cup of that famous coffee chain. The S. Most guests brought it to the smoking area, we really thought we’re the only one did that.

Back to the workstation, well, we personally prefer large desk and the one in our room at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur was big enough for us to put our things while working on something. And, more power outlets. Brilliant. That solved the basic problem of charging devices. Yes, we carry a lot of em’ to everywhere. We even have spare mobiles, not forgetting our compact camera and so on. TV? There’s a 48′ flat screen. Internet? We had access to a high speed one, no password required.

Bathroom is undeniably one important feature in hotel’s room. Personally, we both tend to look at the toiletries first. Toiletries are very much important for both us as we don’t really pack any from home, even toothbrush! We depend entirely on the hotel’s generosity in providing the basic things for us. We were disappointed like a million times in many hotels worldwide but certainly not at  Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur. Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur as well as all other Le Méridien hotels throw in, generously, toiletries of Malin+Goetz products.

It’s not only about that particular brand of such toiletries but most important is the quantity being supplied in the bathroom. It’s just everywhere, on the side of the sink, in the shower and more on the shelves. A simple call to Housekeeping Department will result in more toiletries inside the bathroom! Oh yes, we did just that to see if they entertain such request even though they put like a lot already just before we checked-in! The range of Malin+Goetz products includes lime bar soap, peppermint shampoo, sage body wash, cilantro hair conditioner, and vitamin b5 moisturizer. Did we pack the leftover? Yes, we did.

There’s no bathtub in our room but we’re satisfied with that shower as well as other amenities inside the bathroom. The toilet comes with an installed bidet. 3 big towels, hand towels, face towels, toothbrush like for 4 pax, refreshing mouthwash, bathrobe (there’s another one in wardrobe located outside the bathrom) and all these will be resupplied during the turndown service. And yes, that includes the Malin+Goetz products. We showered like a King as if there’s no tomorrow, thanks to the generous supply of toiletries. The wardrobe itself is big enough to store all of our belongings and on the other side of it is the iron and ironing board.

Latest Recipe (Level 5)

On the first morning, we had buffet breakfast at Latest Recipe. This restaurant offers buffet serving for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Located at level 5, buffet breakfast is served from 6.00 AM to 10.30 AM (Monday to Friday) and 6.00 AM to 11.00 AM (Saturday to Sunday). Those having buffet breakfast here will certainly be indulging in popular dishes that are prepared ‘a la minute’ with personalised and individual servings of Malay, Indian, Chinese, Japanese and Western delights.

It’s one big place we say with so many food to choose from that generous buffet breakfast spread. Guests were seen taking the longest time to actually select their favorites. We can’t really blame them as the spread was really, really great. We had Dim Sum, Nasi Lemak, Roasted Chicken, Noodles, waffles just to name a few. There’s a really big fridge (with fruits, bottled juices and many more inside) at the front of the restaurant and most will find it quite ‘difficult’ to choose the best of the best. Some spent more than 3 minutes just to check things inside the fridge!

Staff were amazingly polite and friendly. They worked diligently while smiling, in a genuine way. In short, service; exceptional. Refills were done in record time. What we love most about this particular restaurant is definitely for its generous spread of yum foods on the buffet counter and we had the liberty to choose from Malay, Indian, Chinese, Japanese and Western cuisines. We tried all.

The Swimming Pool!

The swimming pool is interconnected with the Hilton Kuala Lumpur. It is located on level 8. There is the Pool Bar & Grill@8 that offers a naturally lit and open aired space. We had some great time here and though we didn’t really go into the pool, we know that it’s one great place to spend time with family members.

Our Thoughts

Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur is indeed one of the best hotels that we have visited. The products and service are of high quality and though our concern was only a minor one, which was the shortage of another set of single sofa, we couldn’t find any big or major flaw during our stay at this hotel. We’re pretty pleased with all the elements in our Deluxe Room especially in regard to the generous supply of Malin+Goetz products in the bathroom!

Dining experience was exceptional. We had meals at Gastro Sentral and Favola as well as visit to the Club Lounge; where all day refreshments, breakfast as well Evening Drinks are being served daily. These 3 venues need an extensive coverage that we will be highlighting in the next installments. Food, service as well the interior design are amazing.

The plus factor is that this hotel is located next to KL Sentral, the main transportation hub for Kuala Lumpur City. The hub connects people to all key places in the city in various kind of transportation. Le Méridien brand is about The Promise of Discovery. It’s true when they said that as we have discovered the best of the best, in its products and services right here at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur. For that, we highly recommend this hotel to travelers looking for a great place to stay in Kuala Lumpur.
