Most international flights to Bali will land at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), otherwise known as Denpasar, in in southern Bali. From here, the best way to travel from the airport to your hotel or accomodation is via the transport shuttle service, or a number of airport taxis queued outside the arrival hall. Save yourself some hassle, by researching cheap Bali deals and booking one that includes airport transfers, accommodation and free shuttle services. Using your hotel’s free shuttle services is especially handy for getting around Bali, as transport in Bali can be considered unsafe and unreliable at times, and providers of transport not always the most honest of people.

Tradition and culture has had a heavy influence on Balinese cuisine. Local herbs & spices are used generously to provide unique and rich flavours to dishes. For a true Balinese experience, be sure to feast upon some of these traditional foods during your stay:

  • Sate Lilit – essentially the Indonesian version of meat skewers, Sate consists of either chicken, goat or beef that has been blended with bumbu, grated coconut and a mix of other spices, which is then grilled and served on a wooden skewer.
  • Nasi Ayam and Nasi Campur – Bali’s unique take on chicken served with white rice and mixture of vegetables. As always, these dishes contain a special blend of Balinese species, and the addition of spicy ‘sambal’ to give it an extra kick.
  • Nasi Goreng – like most Southeast Asian countries, Indonesia has it’s very own version of fried rice and is a staple in Balinese diets. Similar to other versions of fried rice, Nasi Goreng consists of steam rice fried with a combo of egg, meats, veggies and sauces like soy sauce or hot chili sauce.

As Bali is positioned quite close to the equator, you can expect its climate to be tropical, warm and humid all year round. Generally Bali displays two distinct seasons, namely, Dry Season (between May to September) and Rainy/Wet season (between October to April). However, the central mountains of Bali (volcanoes) tend to be considerably cooler in temperature, especially during the night, and experiences more rainfall than in coastal areas. If you are wondering when the best time to visit Bali would be, for most travellers it’s typically between the months May, June and July before the rainy season.
