“The Best Tradition Are the Ones That Bring Families Together.’-Hyatt Regency Kinabalu
Stepping into the Lobby of Hyatt Regency Kinabalu was indeed an excitement as we saw some newly installed Chinese New Year decorations here and there. In less than 30 days we saw two sets of decorations, the previous was during Christmas month, the second being the current decorations for Chinese New Year. That many pink plum blossoms kind of implicating the meaning of courage and hope as in Chinese belief with regard to Chinese New year celebration. We’re here to see what Hyatt Regency Kinabalu through its dedicated teams from many departments, is planning for the coming Chinese New Year. Apart from that said decorations, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu unveils its alluring Chinese New Year buffet, Prosperity Yee Sang Platter and Peking Duck.
The decoration in the atrium area is indeed full of elements of Chinese New Year tradition. The lanterns are bright enough during the evening and during day time the natural light from the opening on that gigantic glass roof top enhance its bright red color. For those who are not familiar with Chinese New Year tradition and for our non-Chinese international readers, the red color is an auspicious one for the Chinese (globally) and stands for life and prosperity. Thus it is used in Chinese New Year celebration. During festivals, most of the decorations is usually in red color.
The plum blossom of Sakura Tree is another major symbol for the Chinese New Year celebration. Though it’s artificial here at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, it still manage to remind guests of the meaning of plum blossoms use, they stand for courage and hope. The plum blossoms burst forth at the end of winter on seemingly lifeless branches. In Chinese art, plum blossoms are associated with the entire winter season and not just the New Year. Red color is being the obvious color of every decoration during Chinese New year, it is an auspicious one and stands for life and prosperity. During festivals, most of the decorations around Chinese homes is usually in red color.
According to Ervina Masduki, the Public Relations for Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, the decorations were put together by the hotel’s creative team in a duration of 7 days using recyclable items thus eliminating unnecessary waste that will eventually harm the environment. Hyatt Regency Kinabalu have been executing their noble effort for the betterment of the environment since Christmas season 2016. Hyatt Regency Kinabalu General Manager, Thor Gervasi said that this is one continuous effort and will be carried out as one of the Hotel social responsibility towards maintaining the green environment. Simply put, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu ‘goes green’ and we both are pleased to know that.

Specially made in conjunction with Chinese New Year 2017
When we walked into the Tanjung Ria Kitchen, we saw some Pineapple Tarts being inside long containers and since we are big fans of Pineapple Tart we suddenly had the urge to try it. We later found out that the same Pineapple Tart will be served in Chinese New Year dishes showcase for the media representatives.
The Pineapple Tarts definitely looks good and we became so curious about its texture and taste. The next thing we did was of course tasting it and it’s definitely the best Pineapple Tart that we have ever consumed! The texture, soft and since it’s fresh from oven, the fragrance of baked Pineapple Tarts were all over the place! It’s amazingly crispy and melted easily in our mouth without having to chew many times. The filling, not the usual hard pineapple jam but soft, not that sweet and not bitter. Ervina Masduki told us that the price for 1 set of Pineapple Tart is only MYR28.00 nett. For the high quality in its taste we say the price should have been more higher.
We decided that it is a must to have at least 1 of that nice oblong container with Pineapple Tarts inside it! We got ours, get some for yourself while it’s still there at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu. For that MYR 28.00 price, it’s reasonable given that the tarts are of high quality. It’s also a great Chinese New Year gift for your friends and family members.
