Singing with all her heart and soul, together with Sam (Pianist), Debbie ensured that the audience were pleased with the harmonious masterpiece by Allahyarham Tan Sri P Ramlee, titled as Getaran Jiwa (Soul Vibrations). They performed some other slow numbers as well but their version of Getaran Jiwa was the best that we have ever heard. We spent some time on Friday Evening at The Lounge, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu. We were entertained with that angel voice of Debbie, as well as amazing sound from that Piano played by Sam.

Getaran Jiwa (Soul Vibrations)

..and so Debbie sung a song, melancholically, the masterpiece…Getaran Jiwa..

Getaran jiwa
Menlanda hatiku
Tersusun nada
Irama dan lagu

Walau hanya sederhana
Tetapi tak mengapa
Moga dapat membangkitkan
Sedarlah kamu wahai insan

Tak mungkin hilang
Irama dan lagu
Bagaikan kembang
Sentiasa bermadu

Andai dipisah
Lagu dan irama
Lemah tiada berjiwa

…in English…

The soul’s vibrations
Surge through my heart
In arranged tones
Melody and song
Although it is only regular
That’s alright
I hope it may stir
And awaken you, o people
It will never fade,
The melody and the song
Like a flower
Always in bloom
If they should part
The song and melody
They grow weak and dispirited
And empty

Sam was pretty much in deep concentration with his emotion, his magic fingers were on that Piano Keyboard, producing the nicest sound, acoustically thus getting Debbie in much prepared state to start her angelic vocals, murmuring that first word in the song…getaran.. There was not a single movement among the audience, they sat still. It was only @Lan who had to walk around so that he’s able to captured that beautiful singing, into his device. The only other people who were moving here and there, the staffs, as they need to take orders and things like that, but not the audience.

Almost 5 minutes into that entire lyric, Debbie concluded her version of Getaran Jiwa with that word Hampa in the softest tone, applying that vocal techniques that known only to the professionals. We were mesmerized with the soothing sound of both instrument and vocal that we must say, of all versions that we heard, including the High Tone version of one famous artiste, this is the best version, a relaxed one, soothing, harmonious, gentle and many more adjectives can be used to describe it!….

Singing a legendary song need not to be that ambitious, using all that high pitch vocals. Singing it moderately at times is more soothing, pleasing the ears, ably to keep the original elements, as what Deb did with that Getaran Jiwa. She delivered that song, softly. Yes, this is a lounge, logically she’s supposed to sing that way otherwise those guests in the Atrium Rooms will be mad! If we’ve listen to the same performance in a loud pub, we will still be regarding it as the best we have ever heard. It’s not about high pitch that is important, it is about the ability to deliver the message in that song to the people who are listening.

The pronunciation was clear, one by one, but done gently. The music and vocals were one, inseparable. Did not that directly implying the lyric?

If they should part
The song and melody
They grow weak and dispirited
And empty…..

Both Deb angelic voice and Sam acoustic piano sound are inseparable. Separate that two, we might be getting empty performance, soulfully speaking. They both creates perfect harmony. It will be a shame not to highlight them, for they have the talent, great enough but might need some more exposure to the mass. That’s why we are writing about them, a duo, named as Perfect Harmony. Wait! Did they or did they not just presented that Perfect Harmony through that Getaran Jiwa?

The Perfect Harmony

We had the golden opportunity to interview both Sam and Debbie. Sam, from Sipitang, was inspired by his father interest in music and later ventured into the entertainment world by mastering the Piano instrument.  Debbie who has the highest passion in music, collaborated with Sam and together they formed a duo group named as Perfect Harmony. They are performing from Friday to Sunday, from 7.15 pm to 10 pm at The Lounge, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu.

We know that inside them, individually, they are each, gifted and talented performers. They are just being too humble to not telling us all that they have in their minds. Reality bites, we realized that great people or performers (in this case) normally keep all the good things for last. We can’t blame them. Do know that, we had to find out more about them by asking around. We now know more things than what they told us. Shall we spill the beans? Yes? Got you, if you need to know more about these two amazing people, you need to get to The Lounge at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu. Listen to their ‘magical’ and ‘haven’ performances and if you are lucky, get them to talk while they are on breaks. Good luck!

They are both friendly performers though, if you feel like following them in Facebook, here are the links their personal Facebook Page

Our Beverages

While listening to Perfect Harmony harmonious performances, we ordered two kind of beverages namely Iced Lemon Mint Tea and Cinnamon Teh Tarik.  Iced Lemon Tea and Teh Tarik (Pulled Tea) are two common beverages but at the Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, these two beverages has been elevated to something uniquely different. It’s in the ala-carte menu and guests may order both beverages at The Lounge, Tanjung Ria Kitchen and even at The Poolside. We both tasted each beverage and here are our thoughts about that 2 beverages.

Cinnamon Teh Tarik

Teh tarik is a hot milk tea beverage which can be commonly found in restaurants, outdoor stalls and kopitiams within the Southeast Asian countries of Malaysia and Singapore. If translated to English, it’s Pulled Tea. Now we know that everyone loves Teh Tarik (Mostly!) but have you ever try Teh Tarik with Cinnamon in it?  It tastes and smells so good that we are both still craving for it. As we all know, Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several trees from the genus Cinnamomum that is used in both sweet and savory foods. Here, it’s being mixed with Teh Tarik. Quite refreshing drink we must say.

Iced Lemon Mint Tea

Iced Lemon Tea is known as one refreshing beverage. It has the acidity that gives the ‘kick’ when one is drinking it. If it is added with mint, it is something else then! Mints are aromatic, almost exclusively perennial, rarely annual, herbs. Have that with Lemon and Tea, it’s truly an amazing beverage. Perfect beverage to go along with the great performance by the Perfect Harmony.

Our Thoughts

We both enjoyed so much our moments at The Lounge. We had simple but perfect beverages to go along with the spectacular show of that talented duo group. Though not so glamorous place as much as in bigger Bars or Pubs, at least it gave us the serenity, relaxation in a lounge environment. It helped us to cool down a bit after hectic day, doing all the things that we needed to do. We felt so relaxed. A great lounge to be at, with all that beautiful decorations, soothing colors, attentive service by the staffs and most importantly angelic vocals of Debbie, added by Sam’s magic fingers on the Piano’s Keyboard, acoustically presenting their soothing and relaxing performance.
