The Structure of our review
Instead of writing a single post about everything, we prefer writing things separately thus giving us the ability to have in-depth reviews. We prepared the links or short-cuts to each individual review as below:
As we know it…
An iconic building that was previously planned to be a service apartment in the late 1970’s, it has now become one of the most popular business hotel under the Hyatt brand. With 288 rooms & suites, it offers wide range of services from luxury accommodation for business and casual travelers, to award winning dining outlet such as Nagisa, not to mention the amazing rejuvenating treatments at Avantang Spa. One can spend the entire day at the Hotel, waking up for a great breakfast, burning the calories at the state of the art fitness center, having lunch at Tanjung Ria followed by relaxing at the poolside during late afternoon.
The activities continues to Sunset viewing either at the poolside or from the Regency Club Lounge on the 13th floor, where club room and suites guests indulge in the evening cocktail offerings. Have dinner at Nagisa or Tanjung Ria and then head to the Shenanigan’s Fun Pub or Lobby Lounge for some entertainment before having a good rest in the evening, waking up in the next morning for activities outside the hotel. For business travelers, the hotel is nearby to most big names in banking industry, in within walking distance to major business outlets. The casual travelers will find that they have the easiest access to nearby Jesselton Point that eventually will take them to the nearby Tunku Abdul Rahman Park Islands.
On Sundays, guests will have the opportunity to stroll at the weekly Sunday Market along Gaya Street. For the food hunters, abundant eateries of many types from high-end to street stalls are all scattered around. Those looking for further locations to do some day tour may find many travel agents readily available around the hotel area, or simply ask for help from the attentive concierge personnel at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, you will be amazed with the result. It ain’t one mega complex, that we can tell you. Neither it is a hotel that need some serious navigation to go around but it is a place that will truly reflect one familiar place, at least for the two of us, Home.
Homecoming & our hopes
As travel writers, we both have to be at some hotels, staying, dining then writing and reviewing from our own perspective in order to give the best ‘pictures’ to the readers. It is kind of spreading the values, objectively about the good and the bad elements, of certain properties. This way, future visitors will be able to differentiate between great, good and bad hotels. When it comes to Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, we both have been here since early 2000’s. It is 2016 now. 16 years and that is certainly long enough for us to tell readers that we regard this property as ‘our own home‘.
It might be easy to tell lies to readers but it ain’t easy to lie to ourselves. We both are not comfortable in cheating our own soul. We’d experienced the worst, yes, we will tell you that honestly, but that one unfortunate incident was one bitter sweet experience. Of all the good and unfortunate things that had happened to us at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, we somehow longing to be back at this property. It is the utmost attention and top-notch service by the staffs that attracted our attention so much, their ability to maintain up close and personal relationship, between guests and staffs.
A home is where our souls and thoughts ably to achieve the most ‘relaxing state’. A home will give that comfort, no matter we all go, we will always think of our own home. Rich or poor, we always regard home as the best place to feel secure. A place where we have that sense of belonging, a harmonious place, that is. It is a place for all that bitter-sweet experiences, the ups and downs in within the family circle. We all eventually learnt something while growing up at home, that is why, a home is always a special place.
And so is Hyatt Regency Kinabalu. Our past stays made us felt secured here. The staffs treated us as their own family members. We felt that sense of belonging. We felt that joyful moments in our soul each time we were assigned to our room(s). Our dining experiences are unforgettable, the foods, service and so on are all still clinging in both our minds. The smiles that we saw told us one thing, staffs here works from their heart and soul. That was that, our past experiences and now we will be coming back on Friday, October 7, 2016.
It’s homecoming. As if we are going home! We want to feel and experience all that sweet moments again, this time in a fully refurbished room, nicer Regency Club Lounge, receiving that attentive service from well-trained staffs and enjoy the latest and finest food from Tanjung Ria Kitchen and Nagisa Japanese Restaurant. Yes, we’ve been here recently but only for some hours, indulging in their best foods and beverages. It will be totally different this time around. We will be with the entire team, literally for 3 days and 2 nights, seeing all the positive values, admiring and enjoying the highest quality in their amenities and facilities.
Currently ranked at #4 from a long list in TripAdvisor (of 89 Hotels in Kota Kinabalu city), we want to see if we have the same positive tone as the recent visitors from TripAdvisor Community. From our past experiences, it shouldn’t be a problem as we have regard this property as our ‘home‘ already. Things might have changed here and there and while that is still continuously happening at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, we hope that the changes are all of positive values.
