We stayed at the Dorsett Grand Labuan on July 2, 2016 and having to fast the next day, we went for our Sahur at 3.00 am (July 3,2016). We intend to share to our blog readers what we saw and experience during the Sahur at Victoria’s Brasserie, Dorsett Grand Labuan. Similar to the Break Fast/Sungkai post (here is the LINK), this entry might be a bit too late for most people as Ramadhan month is over. However, this entry can be a good reference for future guests at Dorsett Grand Labuan during Ramadhan month in 2017. At Dorsett Grand Labuan, Sahur is a replacement or an option for the usual Breakfast and offered to Muslim guests.
What is Sahur?
For our non Muslim & International readers, it is necessary to explain the meaning of Sahur. Suhur ( suḥūr, “of the dawn”, “pre-dawn meal”; also spelled suhoor, sahur, or sehri) is an Islamic term referring to the meal consumed early in the morning by Muslims before fasting, before sunrise during the Islamic month of Ramadan. The meal is eaten before fajr prayer. Suhur as the morning meal is matched by Iftar as the evening meal, during Ramadan, replacing the traditional three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner), although in some places dinner is also consumed after Iftar later during the night. Being the last meal eaten by Muslims before fasting from dawn to sunset during the month of Ramadan, suhur is regarded by Islamic traditions as a benefit of the blessings in that it allows the person fasting to avoid the crankiness or the weakness caused by the fast.
The Sahur Buffet Line-up (July 3,2016)
We both don’t eat that much during Sahur. However, we were tempted to try many dishes during our Sahur at Victoria’s Brasserie. We’re definitely amazed to see the high quality food items presented to guests.
There were 3 stations for the Buffet Sahur on July 3,2016. 1st station offered guests main dishes. There’s an Egg station where guests can request for the omelette or whatever style of cooking they prefer.
The Egg Station
Kurma considered the essential during Sahur and here, there were plenty of them.
The buffet Station that offered guests main dishes.
Beef in Soy Sauce/Daging Kicap
Fried Mee Hoon
Plain Porridge with Condiments
Condiments for porridge-Salted Egg, Pickles, Anchovies and more.
Wide selection of breads
Various kind of spread for your bread….
Assorted Kuih Muih
Tropical Pinacolada Smoothie and Green Cucumber Juice
Cereals (Coco Crunch, Honey Star & Muesli) with Fresh Milk and Low Fat Milk
Fresh Fruit Platter (Watermelon, Papaya, Honey Dew, Pineapple, Pomelo, Apple & Orange Sunkist)
We both actually tried most of the items presented during the Sahur. Overall, we love the omelette as the Chef in charge of the Egg Station fulfilled our wish to have plenty of cheese and mushrooms. Thank you Chef! The omelette was cooked perfectly, moist and tasted amazingly delicious.
We love the simple porridge as well. There were number of condiments and when mixed together, it tasted so good actually. We love the saltiness that came from the crunchy Anchovies.
Staffs manning the restaurant were amazingly friendly and polite. They all smiled genuinely. We left a simple note on our table when we left the restaurant. We were 100% satisfied and amazed with the products and service during Sahur on July 3, 2016. There was not a single flaw that we can find during Sahur time. We will definitely be recommending this place to our readers/followers for Sahur in 2017.
We HIGHLY recommend Victoria’s Brasserie as an excellent dining outlet in Labuan Town. We recommend the same place for your Sahur in 2017 (If you happen to be in Labuan anytime during Ramadhan Month 2017)
