“Ramadhan is a wonderful example of how we Malaysians come together at every occasion, whilst respectful of each other’s’ religions, beliefs and practices. At Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu we are pleased to showcase this harmony and heritage through the sheer variety of dishes and cuisines at Latest Recipe and to share that with our diners and guests from other countries. On behalf of the management and associates of our hotel, I take this opportunity to wish all our Muslim guests Selamat Berpuasa “-Jammaz Mohd Yassin, Food & Beverage Manager, Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu
We both recently went to Latest Recipe @ Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu for Iftar/Sungkai/Berbuka puasa and that means to indulge and have a feast in their spectacular buffet for Ramadhan 2016. Having to abstain ourselves from food and drinks during day time, we were actually quite excited to know that there will be some interesting buffet line up at the Latest Recipe.
About Buffet Ramadhan 2016 @ Latest Recipe
Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu’s Bazaar Ramadhan, the city’s best-loved and most renowned Berbuka Puasa buffet, continues to engage diners with the introduction of a new perspective at Latest Recipe, the hotel’s all-day-dining restaurant. The hotel’s Bazaar Ramadhan buffet at attracted 9,000 diners from all walks of life throughout last year’s Ramadhan month. The buffet draws inspiration from the much-loved Malaysian phenomena of stalls that mushroom collectively in every town during the fasting month of Ramadhan. These stalls are frequented not only by fasting Muslims but also non-Muslims for the sheer variety of dishes, specialties, desserts and beverage choices available only during Ramadhan.
At its busiest, Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu catered to sungkai crowds of up to 400 diners and more last year. This year’s Latest Recipe at Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu will showcase its first Berbuka Puasa buffet highlighting the many specialities this venue has to offer. Some of which includes scrumptious dishes from Middle Eastern, Japanese, North Indian, Indonesian, Hong Kong, Singapore and Western cuisines, complemented by Malay, Chinese, Nyonya and native Sabah specialties, whole roast lamb, seafood barbecue, lok-lok, satay and an organic corners.
Diners can also indulge their sweet tooth with a fabulous spread of desserts from cakes, jellies, puddings, ais kacang, white and milk chocolate fountains, fresh fruits, ice creams + sweet condiments, various Malay kueh, a variety of dates, local and western cookies. This year Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu’s Latest Recipe features fruit based sambal, ayam bambangan golek, manuk pansuh, healthy corner, coconut station and sotong tutok. Also the tampatan corner, a signature menu in Latest Recipe, returns with an even bigger offerings such as hinava, bambangan, tuhau, ayam bakakuk, ayam sumpit, pinasakan and more.
Not to be missed are the buffet salad and beverage spreads with a vast array of local and international salads and appetizers, cold cuts, pickled condiments, as well as fruit juices, air sirap, air bandung, teh tarik, kopi tarik, and variety of soft drinks. The buffet is priced at RM158nett per person and children (7 – 12 years old) gets 50% off the normal price, however lucky diners can get special rates with the hotel’s Early Bird vouchers which are available at RM98nett and RM118nett per person.
curiostraveller.com Iftar experience @ Latest Recipe
Honestly, we have to admit that we both were quite ‘lost’ at the Latest Recipe. ‘Lost’ in a good way. ‘Lost’ as we actually did not know which buffet station to go first. There were so many stalls. The minute that we decided to have Sate (Satay), our instinct told us to go for the Grilled Fish. Wait, perhaps the Mongolian Barbecue Station. Nope, maybe the Indian Station as they have this yummy delicious Tandoori Chicken. Let us show you how massive this place is with all the buffet station lining up here and there.
Kurma/Dates are most important for Muslims when breaking fast. We’re definitely happy to see that being readily available on a designated station. Dates are an excellent source of fiber, sugar, magnesium, potassium, and carbohydrates which is good for maintaining health.
In the western culture, dessert is last to be consumed (well, not necessarily). For those who are breaking fast (mostly), the dessert is the second thing that will be consumed after the Dates. We’re amazed to see the dessert line up at the Latest Recipe and we were already thinking of tasting each of em’ later!
This is the station where guests are able to choose their favorite fresh greens and Sambal to go with it. In Malay culture, it’s called Ulam-ulaman where one eat most greens in its raw state by dipping it into the sambal.
You don’t see this at all buffet presentation. This is something unique. Variety of Salted Fish, readily available to be consumed.
The Carving Station: From Lamb to Beef-definitely the place for meat lovers!
Noodles Station-all you need to do is to pick and tell the cooks your cooking preference.
Our favorite station (Tampatan Station), especially for @joehairie. This is the station to sample some Sabah Traditional Food.
Local Hill Rice/Nasi Bukit
Stir Fried Fern Leaf with Shrimp Paste (Tampatan Station)
Chicken with local Magnifera/Ayam Bambangan (Tampatan Station)
Have you ever tried food based on Mongolian Theme? No? Then head to this station.
@curiostraveller favorite station as he adores Indian Food especially Naan Bread and Tandoori Chicken.
Every year, we have to line up at somewhere else to get Bubur Lambuk and the line is always long each year. At the Latest Recipe, we can have that in our preferred quantity, without having to line up.
Appetizers! Look at that Prawns and more are available at this particular station.
This is the station for those who really take cares of their Diet and wish to eat more healthy food such as steamed Fish. Further up is another ‘Green’ station where you can get organic vegetables. Simply pick and tell the cooks.
Steamed Fish..this is healthy but yummy!
A station meant for Sate (Satay) lovers. Most popular station I must say!
A station for Grilled Fish fans!
Sarawakian dish-Manuk Pansuh
Coconut Station! A hit among guests..
@joehairie is a big fan of Ambuyat, so he did get one serving of Ambuyat that came with the Fish Soup. Below is the image of that Ambuyat and the video showing how he consumed it.
Our favorite dessert-Coconut Ice Cream
@curiostraveller most favorite dish-Satay and Serunding.
Sweet moment meeting with Chef Rondi again after few months. Click HERE to read another entry on how we met him for the first time @ Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu.
