Mosaic @ Hyatt Regency Kinabalu

Cleverly designed as a high end cafe that belongs to the famous Hyatt brand, The Mosaic @ Hyatt Regency Kinabalu offer their customers an unforgettable amazing colorful and delicious all day dessert that includes 14 flavors of homemade ice cream. Oh did I mention sensational Belgian Waffles topped with ice cream? To add to that already appetizing desserts, the Mosaic offers some healthy option such as sandwiches and salad. Mosaic is a stylish sidewalk cafe located on the street level of Hyatt Regency Kinabalu thus offering the perfect spot to people-watch on the busy street. It is kinda sitting and slurping your bevy at a Parisian Cafe (lol!) while looking at the passers-by (or they actually looking at you?).

I decided to spend the early evening hours at the Mosaic recently and skip the other Hipster Cafes in Kota Kinabalu (the usual activity in the weekend). I wanted to see how different the cafe is in comparison with the already abundant modern and hipster cafes. Most important to be scrutinized is the level of service. All modern cafes are the same for me, they have the usual Hot and Cold Coffee/Tea selections, be it Mocha, Cappuccino and so on. Is Mosaic on par with the hipster cafes around Kota Kinabalu? Does it offer an exceptional level of service since it is own by the Hyatt? What extras do they have? That were the main question before I entered the Mosaic. I brought along my photographer @joehairie and together we ‘investigate’ this cafe. Were we satisfied? Keep reading for the verdict.

@joehairie- chilling out before playing with the lenses.

Upon entering the Mosaic, we were immediately acknowledged by the staff. We were very picky about the area that we wanted to seat but the staff simply letting us to choose our preference. We chose to seat near to the bar so that we can have a closer look to the happenings around. It was a lovely seating area (as shown in the picture above) with three individual sofas. Next to it is the gigantic menu that were written by hand (I think so!). There was this grumpy middle-aged man seating not far from us (we thought this is funny). He kept complaining about the things that he’s not satisfied with to a point that he left the Cafe similar to thunder cats. Amazingly, the staff reacted cool and maintained their professionalism although they were yelled at all the time. 2 thumbs up!! I like that. Lets have a look at the interior and exterior of this Cafe.

Spacious indoor area of the cafe with plenty seating. I love how the glass panel enable customers to view the outside area. It’s indeed a place to seeing and being seen. The indoor seating area will protect you from the scorching hot weather during the day. Air condition is set at the right temperature which will make you stay for hours.

Seating area facing the service bar.
Comfortable seating for 4 pax. Perfect place for your discussion with business partners or chatting with friends.
Magazines for your reading pleasure. If you must read, pick few magazines and read.
Desserts on display. You will have the hardest time to choose your preference as all of them look yummy!!
Outdoor seating area/Smoking area. Favorite area for smokers and vapers. However, it is not that ideal to be seated here in the early afternoon. It will be way too hot for anyone.
Outdoor seating area. There are ceiling fans that will provide the ‘breeze’. Staff will turn on the fan upon request.
View of the seating area during sunset. It is a nice place to hang around and slurping your bevy here while the enjoying the view and be seen.
The Giant Menu. I love the idea of hanging the menu on the wall. It makes people easy to decide what to order. I wonder which staff was the lucky one to be chosen as the ‘writer’ of the menu.
Menu. Promotional items. I was informed by a staff that starting 7.30 pm customers can enjoy a whopping 50% discount when purchasing cakes.
Promotional Banner outside the cafe. My eyes went straight to the WIFI word down there. Yup, WIFI is a must. It will be a shame if a cafe does not provide free WIFI to customers. Luckily, Mosaic do have WIFI.
Our selections!!! I love how the staff took the initiative to arrange all the servings in such an orderly way. They must have known that I am a blogger and wish to captured everything through the lenses.
Look at the yummy desserts..I purposely chose these appetizing desserts. Perfect for photo shoot.  The images below separately shows the selected desserts and bevy.

Once again, the staff did the job! Carrying all the little servings and arranged em’ nicely. Thank you!

After spending some time inside the cafe, we decided that its time to try the outdoor seating area, obviously because we are smokers. Staffs helped us to carry all the servings that we ordered and again nicely arranged em’ on our new table. Let me introduce all the staff -Kevin, Rama and Alvincia. All three of them were super friendly, polite, attentive and helpful. Most importantly, they smiled genuinely. The food? Yup, all them tasted so good while the Mocha and Cappuccino were so good that we took the longest time to finish em’ all. Why? Because we took time admiring the presentation and taste.
