I am a bit excited for this coming Sabah Fest 2016. The reason for being excited is because I am invited to witness the extravaganza cultural show. Being a blogger, attending such event is a must as this will help me to post more related content into my blog. My blog is about food, culture and travel in Sabah. Obviously, I need to attend this exciting event. The event will be held three days in a row starting 29 April 2016 to 1 May 2016. The slot for 29 April 2016 and 1 May 2016 are open for public while the 30 April 2016 is reserved for VIPs.  I will be attending the event on the 1 May 2016 slot.

Sabah Fest is a celebration of Sabah’s rich and diverse cultures through musical theater and exhibitions under one roof. This year, Sabah Fest takes audiences back in time with the staging of Gulu Gulu – a tribute to the past. Gulu Gulu (a Kadazan Dusun term which means ‘a long time ago’) focuses on the adventures, trials and tribulations of legendary Sabah warrior, Mat Salleh. Mat Salleh was particularly known for his courage and loyalty, leading the his fellow countrymen during the resistance to colonial powers. The theatrical performance takes you on an expedition across Sabah, showcasing places and timelines of historical significance for Mat Salleh. To know more about Mat Salleh, I suggest that you read the article by Wikipedia here or go straight to first page of google search result for Mat Salleh, click here.

This year’s featured ethnic groups include the Kadazan and Dusun Liwan of Ranau, Suluk Sandakan and Dusun Tambunan among many others. This three-day event will also highlight Sabah’s rich cultural heritage through a handicraft and traditional food showcase from 4:00pm to 10:00pm at the venue’s grounds. Sample the authentic flavors of Sabah and see how local craftspeople weave, carve and stitch using age-old techniques. Before the stage performance starts, guests are treated to traditional dance Pocket Shows at the Open Auditorium, performed by the dancers of JKKN Sabah. Don’t miss this annual cultural fiesta –the grandest of its kind in Sabah!
